Right ventricular dysfunction in Chagas' Cardiomyopathy. Primary involvement or a resonant manifestation of Left ventricular dysfunction?

چکیده
Background Chagas’ Cardiomyopathy (CC) is an important cause of heart failure and sudden cardiac death (SCD) in Latin America. Migratory movements have spread carriers throughout the world, especially in USA and Europe. Left Ventricle (LV) involvement is a landmark and apical aneurysm a pathognomical sign. Nevertheless, early involvement of the right ventricle (RV) and RV systolic dysfunction in presence of normal left ventricular systolic function in CC has been a subject of controversy in the literature. Therefore, we analyzed a cohort of patients with CC in order to explore the presence of RV dysfunction.

Morbidity and prognostic factors in chronic chagasic cardiopathy.
Chagas disease is a pleomorphic clinical entity that has several unique features. The aim of this study is to summarise some of the recent contributions from our research group to knowledge of the morbidity and prognostic factors in Chagas heart disease. A retrospective study suggested that ischaemic stroke associated with left ventricular (LV) apical thrombi is the first clinical manifestation...
متن کاملEvaluation of Right Ventricular Systolic Function in Chagas Disease Using Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
BACKGROUND Right ventricular (RV) impairment is postulated to be responsible for prominent systemic congestion in Chagas disease. However, occurrence of primary RV dysfunction in Chagas disease remains controversial. We aimed to study RV systolic function in patients with Chagas disease using cardiac magnetic resonance. METHODS AND RESULTS This cross-sectional study included 158 individuals w...
متن کاملHigh myocardial 18F-FDG uptake after chemotherapy in the presence of left ventricular dysfunction as well as 3-month later with no left ventricular dysfunction
Diffusely increased glucose metabolic activity in the right and left ventricles using 2-deoxy-2-(F-18) fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDGPET/CT) and global left ventricular hypokinesia at echocardiography can be evident in acute myocarditis. But, there has been no case report that the ventricular 18F-FDGuptake remains unchanged even ...
متن کاملEchocardiographic parameters associated with pulmonary congestion in Chagas cardiomyopathy.
INTRODUCTION Discrepancy between the intensity of pulmonary congestion and the grade of cardiomegaly seems to be a common finding of Chagas cardiomyopathy, in spite of significant systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle. Its mechanism has not been established. The aim of this study was to investigate pulmonary congestion and to analyze if it correlated with Doppler echocardiographic paramete...
متن کاملEvaluation of heart disease in patients with beta-thalessemia major referred to Shahid Madanni Hospital in Khorram Abad in 2003
Background: Patients with beta-thalessemia major present with severe anemia and need continous transfusion therapy. An important complication of beta-thalessemia major is iron deposition in cardiac tissue, resulting in fibrosis and dysfunction. Cardiac involvement is the major cause of death in beta-thalessemia major. The purpose of this study was to assess cardiac disease patients with bet...
